“This mural speaks of the importance of intergenerational values and community bonds. This apartment building in Modena forms part of the cooperative UniCapi in which all the inhabitants jointly own the building through innovative housing management models. This decentralization of ownership has empowered the residents and been the basis of the formation of strong community bonds. As the next generation enters the cooperative structure, they wanted to communicate the importance of passing on the legacy of fundamental cooperative values.
After spending time in the neighborhood getting to know the residents, visiting the school, meeting the members of the cooperative and taking photos, we created this design. Forming a collage of various residents of the neighborhood, the design celebrates reciprocal intergenerational relationships, as well as the plurality of nodes of relationships that form a community.
As a collaborative mural we had the pleasure of embodying the same spirit of cooperation that we aimed to portray.
