Ebany G. Patterson … while the dew is still on the roses. . . presenta il lavoro dell’artista Ebony G. Patterson, nato in Giamaica nel 1981. Questa è la mostra più significativa del lavoro dell’artista fino ad oggi, presentata in un nuovo ambiente di installazione che evoca un giardino notturno.
Patterson è noto per disegni, arazzi, video, sculture e installazioni che coinvolgono superfici stratificate con fiori, glitter, pizzi e perline. Il suo lavoro indaga le forme di abbellimento in relazione alla cultura giovanile all’interno delle comunità senza diritto di voto. Le sue opere neo-barocche affrontano la violenza, la mascolinità, il “bling“, la visibilità e l’invisibilità nel contesto post-coloniale della sua nativa Kingston e nella cultura della gioventù nera a livello globale. Questa mostra si concentra sul ruolo che i giardini hanno avuto nella sua pratica, indicato come spazio sia di bellezza che di sepoltura, ambienti pieni di estetica fugace e lutto.
