“‘A mind’s last standing’
Location: Stornara, Puglia, Italy. Curated by Stramurales crew.
Nicole’s father, diagnosed with dementia, became increasingly silent and immobile, losing touch with his past, including faces and names. ‘His last year he suddenly smiled or said sweet things, and he told my mother he loved her. He never said that in the past 40 years. This story inspired me to do a small study on dementia, which found that the last thing that remains intact are core memories of passion and love. Nicole’s father’s mural, placed in a public home for the sick and elderly, teaches that even when everything is taken away, the biggest and most important part of you remains until the end. The mural serves as an immortal reminder of the importance of core feelings in life.”
