“In Nochikuppam, stands a mural named “Life” / “வாழ்க்கை” that holds profound meaning for the artist and the community alike. The mural unveils tender portraits of the neighborhood’s residents – retired catamaran builders, grandmothers, mothers, and fisherfolk, reflecting the rich diversity and tapestry of life by the sea.
Amidst the mural’s canvas, the children take center stage, symbolizing a hopeful future. Playfully flying kites and forming bonds, they effortlessly transcend barriers, representing the enduring strength and vitality of the community.
For Paola, this mural was more than just a creative endeavour. Throughout the artistic process, the community welcomed her as one of their own, showing kindness and pride in being portrayed on the wall. Witnessing the way they embrace one another, care for their children and elders, appreciate nature, and find joy in simple pleasures left an impact that has been depicted on the wall.”
