““Full Steam Ahead”. When asked to paint in Monon Indiana I chose a train because their rich train history. I really wanted to do it in a way that was exciting and meaningful. I looked at many trains but kept coming back to the concept of “Full Steam Ahead” and wanted to depict that. “Full Steam Ahead is how I want to live my life and also my hope for the town. Moving forward, always learning and picking up speed. Hidden throughout painting is written love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. In my faith we call this “the fruit of the spirit” in Galatians 5:22. it’s a list of ways that I hope to live by and can’t do it without Gods guidance. I feel my desire for always move forward forward is guided and fueled by God. I truly hope this is a metaphor for the town. There is a strong desire to move forward and it’s often hard to get people “on board”. Well, a big ass mural in the middle of town can help do that. Haha! And it has! Already the town has received two more murals and a grant to fix up their theater! All aboard everyone! Lastly, I wanted to make sure I enhanced the architecture. The brick was so striking so I knew I wanted to leave some exposed. The color of it was so beautfiful and I wanted to be sure it felt as if the brick was a part of the piece. I loved the shape at the top and it allowed me to bring elements higher than the roof line to cause it to appear as if the piece was breaking beyond the border. This piece took me 4 days and was probably the most technicle I have done. Shout out to Deb for lining everything up and arranging all that I needed for a successful project.”
