“Painted at the back of the Rapid Creek Markets. The mural depicts a busy Sunday morning at the market.
Was proper buzzing to get the opportunity to paint at such an institution of Darwin. Rapid creek is defo the best market here imo.
Went to the market a few times to suss out what it is like and to take some photos to paint from. Ate some banging Laksa and Satay roti.
Managed to squeeze in some references into the painting of the trading that used to happen between the indigenous folks in the NT and the Makassan people of now Indonesia before colonisation in Australia. They traded trepang (sea cucumber) for hundreds of years before Captain Cook got here.”
