“A tour of Community fabric – Finished a two weeks ago in Alexandria, VA- Just outside of D.C. on ZIPS drycleaning- this mural depicts 2 local women against a backdrop of Mt. Vernon trail, and a quilt designed by Carmen Torrell Quander, part of the earliest known free black family in the area. The quilt was designed as part of a painting memorializing its use during the underground railroad. The eagles in the center are there because of the massive conservation effort that is going on in this area, which has resulted in populations booming again. The piece is meant to show what can happen when communities work together.”
