Celebrating Willy‘s birthday today, I share with you all the new mural in Paliano, reborn from the ashes of the old one. This piece is not just art; it’s a symbol of our collective memory and a part of our city’s heritage.
This mural, a result of total refurbishment, renews the message that has been speaking to our conscience since Willy’s passing. Now, beyond the urgency of mourning, it finds new meaning in the serenity of remembrance.
As an artist, I’ve always believed in the power of art to influence society. Creating the first mural dedicated to Willy was a deeply touching initiative that resonated with many on issues like racism and bullying. Redoing this mural allowed me to reflect on how Willy’s story has become a source of inspiration and change.
The new mural, unveiled today, aligns with the “Day of Respect” celebrations, a day to address respect, non-violence, and combating discrimination.
Three years after the original mural, this new creation reaffirms the conflicting emotions and thoughts we’ve all faced since Willy’s tragedy. It’s a renewed act of love for a brave young man who chose selflessness in a world marked by easy choices and selfishness. I thank the city major and all the collaborators for the chance to add to our community’s beauty and conscience.
