“After 5 years of work, the large-scale intervention I created on a new building in the seaside town of Cascais is finally complete.
Taking over one of the building’s façades, this intervention establishes a symbiotic relationship with the surrounding space. Created using a completely new technique, its main material is a special form of shuttered concrete mixed with earth, presenting an organic texture of oscillating reliefs.
The final effect is materialized by a pattern that gives the building a transparency allowing the entry and exit of light, inspired by the anatomical branching of a tree leaf seen under a microscope. The composition is structured in a play of lights, creating changing reflections that paint the interior surfaces through the penetration of light. At night, the image occupying the facade takes on new contours through the oscillation of interior lighting.
The overall concept of this work focuses on the humanization of the landscape, establishing a connection of recognition not only with passers-by but also with the established life of the surroundings. Imposing in size and impressive in its texture, the intervention attracts the gaze, which is in turn reciprocated by a structure in mutation, reflecting what characterizes our own nature.”
