“‘Be happy in this moment, this moment is your life’, one of my favourite pieces created in my hometown in Blackburn in the UK for Blackburn Open Walls a few years back.
Originally I had created a piece with the same message a few years earlier, on a wall which was due for demolition in the town. It was one of the first pieces I’d created for Blackburn and I felt so much positive feedback creating it. Whilst I was painting, a lady gave me a hot chocolate and strangers chatted in the street about the new artwork coming to life in front of them. Someone even left me a thank you card for brightening up their walk to work. It was so lovely.
A few months after the wall was demolished, someone reached out to me to say how much the artwork had meant to them and how they missed seeing it everyday, so when the chance came to create another piece for my hometown, I thought it would be nice to bring the message back again.
It’s been a few years back since this piece now, and the north west weather is taking its toll on the wall, but in a weird way, the feeling of the piece disappearing again is part of the artwork it a way. Everything comes and goes. Sometimes you don’t know it is here till it’s gone.
Another reminder that we should try to be happy in these moments. This moment is our life.”
