““Mayan Ofelia” Every end is a transformation, and during our lifetime, we die many times. And to embrace those ends is to embrace the new beginnings and the positive things that this changes bring. Holbox is an island that has become very popular in the past years, and as in many touristic places in Mexico, the development has negative consequences for the environment and the people living there, so many that it feels as a death for the places. But it wouldn’t be fair to criticize without thinking about all the positive aspects of it and how much I have benefited from it, that is why I tried to represent the transmutation process that Holbox experiments with this painting, where a dying woman reincarnates in new life and new magic. Because the cycle is endless and so are our lives and every change brings new opportunities to grow, to learn and develop as specie. Even if for that we have to let go of certain valuable things.”
