Chur, Switzerland’s oldest city, rich in history and nestled in the mountains, served as the backdrop for this project. The artists focused on themes of exploration, embarking on a shared journey, togetherness, and familial bonds. Seeking a song to embody these ideas, the artists approached Chur-based rap group Breitbild .The song «Montalin» was chosen, featuring the lyric «Khumm miar laufen zäma z Tal durii» (Let’s walk together through the valley), which perfectly captured the project’s essence.
The song lyrics “Montalin” by the band Breitbild, which the members wrote by hand on the wall, served as inspiration and a template for my following concept:

This mural in Chur, Switzerland’s oldest town, captures the essence of physical and metaphorical journeys. The central figure, a woman in a simplified traditional Swiss dress with a striking red skirt, commands attention as she hikes through a rugged landscape. Her sideward gaze reflects on her past or loved ones left behind in the valley below.

The red skirt symbolizes the courage and determination needed to explore life’s paths. This lone traveler embodies the spirit of adventure, illustrating the parallels between travel and life: movement, challenges, and growth.

The mural conveys a powerful message: her solitary journey showcases the strength of solo exploration while hinting at the fulfillment of shared experiences. It reminds us that life’s travels, through landscapes or personal milestones, are more satisfying when connected with others, celebrating both solitary bravery and the importance of companionship.
