“The Mothership
During the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union, I was asked to create a mural depicting a democratic Europe.
I see Europeans as a diverse group of people with various cultures and traditions, yet united in our belief in democracy, which elevates us collectively. This democratic belief works as a burning flame that keeps a vulnerable hot air balloon from falling. As a continent, we navigate through the unknown space, guided by the goddess Athena, who represents wisdom and forms the foundation of this democratic structure. Athena provides direction to this old continent, rich in history and culture. Guarding our freedom to express ourselves without fear of harassment, even when such expressions might sometimes pose a direct threat to democracy, whether from within or outside.
We should always remember to cherish the privilege of being part of this.
