“The Women of Dharavi”
Dharavi, India: new piece collab by Wasp Elder and Helen Bur for St+art India.
“When we first walked around Dharavi it was bursting with life; out of the chaos there emerged a sense of calm, a sense of tight community beyond the sound of the city, where generations meet, share and coexist together in street, home and work. The mural depicts a young girl who lives in one of the homes just next to the wall and a woman working in the pottery trade just around the corner.
We wanted to elevate the women of Dharavi specifically and celebrate the female workforce, where on top of being homemakers, mothers and wives women are often contending in physically or mentally demanding jobs alongside men.”
