Ciò che affascina particolarmente nelle frutte ammuffite dell’artista newyorchese Kathleen Ryan è il rapporto dialettico fra il bello e il grottesco. Sì, perché, se superate l’iniziale reazione di ribrezzo data dall’effetto marcio, vi accorgerete che queste sculture sono piccoli capolavori semi preziosi, così come semi preziose sono le pietre di cui sono composte, cioè malachite, opale e quarzo fumé.
Kathleen Ryan parte da una base in schiuma che modella a somiglianza del frutto desiderato e vi aggiunge pazientemente le piccole pietre. I limoni sono i frutti preferiti dall’artista, ma nella sua produzione troviamo anche anche pesche, arance e pere.
