“Portrait of Marco Recchia (95 years) one of the last mineworkers from Bois du Luc. We created this piece in honor of all those workers and the mining history of the area.
Bois-du-Luc was a coal mine in Houdeng-Aimeries, near La Louvière, in Belgium which today is preserved as an UNESCO world heritage site.
It was one of the oldest mines in Belgium, with recorded activity dating back to 1685. The mining site closed down in 1973 and has been a museum since 1983.”
