Calder è stato uno degli artisti più influenti e pionieristici del XX secolo, avendo trasformato la natura stessa della scultura per aver introdotto la quarta dimensione del tempo in arte e l’attualità dell’esperienza in tempo reale nella sua opera. Esplora le mobiles, le stabiles, le standing mobiles e i dipinti dell’artista che vanno dagli anni ’40 agli anni ’70. I pezzi in mostra riflettono l’approccio diretto e innovativo di Calder alla creazione artistica, in base al quale coltivava una pratica che non solo esplorava molteplici dimensioni, ma oscillava anche tra il monumentale e l’intimo.

Un maestro di molti materiali e tecniche, Calder ha creato un corpus diversificato di lavoro che rappresenta un interesse lungo una carriera per l’energia e la forma. Gli innovativi “mobiles” e “stabiles” di Calder hanno consolidato il loro posto nella storia dell’arte del 20° secolo. La sua unica esplorazione dell’astrazione – coinvolgendo forze energetiche, scolpendo volumi dai vuoti – ha portato a oggetti che alterano radicalmente la nostra esperienza dello spazio.
